Maria (not her real name), 41, photographed at the house she used to live in Mexico City, which she designed and built together with her former partner. Born and raised in Mexico City, worked as an architect for 21 years up until she suffered a femicide attempt at the hands of her partner at the time, three years ago. This event turned her life upside down; had to leave her house for fear of reprisals, as well as her job and the social circle she had created with her former partner. She is currently receiving psychological attention at the Center for Integral Attention (CAI) run by MSF in Mexico City and studying to redirect her professional career towards jewellery making.
