Known to the locals as “El Cerrito” the stunning Villa Planchart was designed by Gio Ponti at the top of a hill overlooking Caracas in the 50s. High oil prices had put the country’s economy as one of the strongest and most prosperous in South America and the wealthy Plancharts, great admirers of the avant-garde style of the Italian architect, requested him a villa made to their needs down to the last detail; with marble brought specifically from Italy and some of its furniture and objects designed by Ponti himself.
