The Undertaker of Missing Migrants for 1843 Magazine
The Economist’s 1843 Magazine publishes the feature "The Undertaker of Missing Migrants" in which I worked on last year, following the work of Cesar Ortigoza, a volunteer who searches the US-Mexico border for missing migrants. An extraordinary work under unbelievable harsh conditions to which Cesar devotes nearly all his spare time and personal resources, with hopes of bringing closure to the relatives left behind.
Together with writer Matthew Bremner we followed him on one of his searches in the Arizona desert, and later on, we visited the relatives of a small group who perished in the border in their hometowns in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, weaving together different realities of the origin, transit and destination of part of the irregular migration towards the US.
